A Little Xtra of What?
In 2010, we welcomed our
fourth son into our family.
Jeremiah arrived with a
fighting spirit and an extra
little 21st chromosome,
which we learned meant
he was born with Down
syndrome. Since then,
Jeremiah has taught us
more than we could have
imagined. He came with
extra love, empathy,
happiness, determination,
and all of the best parts
of humanity.
See What Our Community Has to Say
“I had the privilege of working with Sandra while she was President of the Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society, and she also served as a caregiver for my father, who has Parkinson’s disease. Sandra is exceptional at managing complex responsibilities, whether organizing large-scale events like the Buddy Walk or providing compassionate, attentive care. Her ability to balance time management, project leadership, and personal caregiving is truly inspiring. Sandra’s calm and professional demeanor, even in the most challenging situations, made her an invaluable support system for my family."

"I would like to tell you about Sandra Maldonado. She has been and continues to be, such a great asset to the GSDSS. She was always on top of every event and has helped many. She is dependable, helpful, reliable, and always willing to help everyone. I miss her so very much, as well as our group, The Misfits of the Beach (M.O.B.), miss her as well. I formed this group 18 years ago to volunteer for the GSDSS. Whenever I needed advice, Sandra was always there. Even after she moved from Myrtle Beach, I still call and she always helps with her advice. She came to Myrtle Beach for the infamous Buddy Walk to help. Before coming here, she gave all her experience with the Buddy Walk to helpers here. As President of the GSDSS, Sandra was terrific! I really cannot say enough about her."
